  3.                            FASTMAIL HELP
  4.  
  5.      FASTMAIL is a DOOR that allows you to collect your mail in
  6.      one mailbag for speed and convenience. A description of each
  7.      of the menu options follows.
  8.  
  9.  0   - Return to the BBS.
  10.  
  11.      It does exactly what you would think it would do!
  12.  
  13.  1   - HELP for FASTMAIL.
  14.  
  15.      You've obviously selected this option as you're looking at the
  16.      HELP file now!
  17.  
  18.  2   - Change mail selections/last read pointer.
  19.  
  20.      This option shows you WHICH areas you will automatically collect
  21.      mail from and allows you to make TEMPORARY changes to the areas.
  22.  
  23.      The display shows a list of area numbers, the approximate number
  24.      of messages , and the NAME of the message area.
  25.  
  26.      The S)elect option allows you to TEMPORARILY enable an area.
  27.  
  28.          You can select individual areas or a RANGE of areas - e.g.
  29.  
  30.              S 1 2 3 4  would select areas 1, 2, 3, and 4
  31.              S 5-10     would select areas 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10
  32.  
  33.              *NOTE* there must be NO spaces before or the dash (-) when
  34.              specifying a range of areas. S 1-5 is valid, S 1- 5 is NOT.

  36.      The D)eselect allows you to exclude an area from THIS MAIL SCAN ONLY.
  37.  
  38.          As with the Select command you can Deselect either individual
  39.          areas or a range of areas.
  40.  
  41.      The R)eset last read allows you change the "last read" pointer for a
  42.      message area.
  43.  
  44.          You can rest ONE area or a RANGE of areas - e.g.
  45.  
  46.              R 11 120   would reset the "last read" pointer in area 11
  47.                         to message 120.
  48.  
  49.              R 2-8 35   would reset the "last read" pointers in areas 2,
  50.                         3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 to message 35.

  52.      The L)ist command displays the areas again showing any changes made.
  53.  
  54.          L can also be followed by a number - the listing will
  55.            START from this message area.
  56.  
  57.      The Y)our areas command displays ONLY those areas that are CURRENTLY
  58.          selected.
  59.  
  60.          It can be followed by a number - the listing will START from
  61.          this area.
  62.  
  63.      The Q)uit returns to the MAIN menu.
  64.  
  65. *NOTE*  THE SELECT/DESELECT options are ONLY effective for
  66.         the current use of the FASTMAIL door - when you exit the
  67.         door ALL areas you have joined (with the GT "A" command)
  68.         will be re-enabled.
  69.  
  70.                     JOINING AND UNJOINING MESSAGE AREAS.
  71.  
  72.      To ADD a new message area to your list for automatic download
  73.      all you need to do is use the A)rea change command in GT - this
  74.      will mark you "active" in any area you select.
  75.  
  76.      Conversely - to UNjoin (deactivate) a message area PERMANENTLY
  77.      from the automatic download use the UN)join command from GT.
  78.  
  79.  3   - Change your default settings.
  80.  
  81.      This option allows you to change YOUR personal FASTMAIL settings
  82.      which will be saved and used when you enter the FASTMAIL DOOR
  83.      You may set the following defaults -
  84.  
  85.          a) Maximum messages per area.
  86.  
  87.             You can set a limit on the number of messages extracted from
  88.             each area.
  89.  
  90.          b) Extract Next or Last messages.
  91.  
  92.             If there are MORE messages available for download in an area
  93.             than you can get in one session, you can specify whether you
  94.             extract from the START of the area (Next) or the END of the
  95.             area (Last) - using the Last option would give you the most
  96.             recent messages.
  97.             *NOTE* - the START of the area is the "last read" message
  98.             number - not the FIRST message!
  99.  
  100.          c) File Transfer Protocol.
  101.  
  102.             Valid protocols are Xmodem, Ymodem, Ymodem Batch, and
  103.             Zmodem.
  104.  
  105.          d) Compression method.
  106.  
  107.             Valid compression modes are LZH, ARC, PAK, and ZIP.
  108.  
  109.          e) Download messages entered by YOU.
  110.  
  111.             You can instruct FASTMAIL NOT to collect any messages that you
  112.             have entered either on this system or another BBS.
  113.  
  114.             (After all - you should know what you wrote!)
  115.  
  116.          f) Automatically start extraction
  117.  
  118.             If you set this option to Y, FASTMAIL will automatically
  119.             start a mail extract the FIRST time you log on for the day.
  120.  
  121.          g) Auto download limit.
  122.  
  123.             If the mailbag you generate is SMALLER than this value
  124.             FASTMAIL will AUTOMATICALLY start the file transfer.
  125.  
  126.             If your mailbag is LARGER than (or equal to) the limit
  127.             FASTMAIL will ask you if you wish to continue. If you
  128.             reply NO to the question, NO last read pointers will
  129.             be altered and FASTMAIL will allow you to change your
  130.             options and/or selected areas and try again.
  131.  
  132.          h) Download updated Bulletins.
  133.  
  134.             If this option is set to Y, FASTMAIL will check for any
  135.             bulletin files that have been updated since you last
  136.             extracted mail and will include them in your mailbag.
  137.  
  138.          i) Extract ALL PERSONAL mail.
  139.  
  140.             This option enables you to get mail addressed TO/FROM you
  141.             even though the messages lie outside the range specified.
  142.  
  143.             Take this example-
  144.  
  145.             Assume that there are 200 UNREAD messages in an area, but
  146.             you only want to get the last 20. This would normally mean
  147.             that you wouldn't get any messages from the first 180
  148.             (because you have told FASTMAIL not to scan them).
  149.             However, if you set this option to 'Y', FASTMAIL WILL scan
  150.             those first 180 messages and extract ANY message specifically
  151.             addressed to or from you.

  153.  4  - Extract mail.
  154.  
  155.      This will create a mailbag containing all messages available in
  156.      all areas, compress it using your default protocol, and, subject
  157.      to the Auto download limit, send the file to you using your
  158.      default protocol.
  159.  
  160.      The resulting mailbag is in a format suitable for use with GTREAD
  161.  
  162.  5  - Upload replies.
  163.  
  164.      This will receive a FASTRPLY.??? compessed file created by GTREAD,
  165.      extract any messages in it and post them to the correct areas.
